Feminism

Feminism is the belief that women should be treated equally to men, they believe they should have equal pay, equal rights etc. Femenists do not like the way women rarely get the lead in films and often get the part of the helpless heroin who needs saving. They are often depicted as sex symbols in the music industry.

Laura Mulvey is a big believer in this, she believes that the male gaze into the media is made by men for men. She says that audience veiws a film in Voyeuristic veiw.

She argues that Voyeurism shows the woman to be perfectly beautiful and objectifying, she says that movie star have to be perfect and meet the aproval of men.

Cohens Moral Panic

Cohens Morale Panic was created by Stanley Cohen and is what the media uses to make a certain someone look as if they are a threat to society in some way. Cohen said that the panic can cause  "a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges as a threat to societal values and interests"

Folk Devils are created when the media takes a piece of imformation on some one in the public eye and hugely exagerates it, such as a riot, the media can exagerate the number of people involved and the scale of violence. The writer will voice their opinion strongly and the word will spread until it creates a sense of "them" and "us". However these stories are hard to maintian over a extended period of time and often drop in popularity and drop out of the media.

Semiotic Theory

Semiotic Theory is the process of interpreting signs that we recieve such as the emotions that a created from certain colours and pictures. Blue creates the sign for boys, water, cold and sky. Where as Red may create the sign of anger, violence and evil.

A sign carries a meaning whather t be a word, symbol, image or sound. Signs form the coded system with in the media text. These signs are encoded by their producers and then decoded by the audience.
The producer will deliberatly place a sign in the scene in the hope that the audience will understand what it signifies.

In my magazine i will be using the images to try and convey the purpose of my magazine. I am going for the Classic Rock/Indie style. So the band will be wearing plain clothes but still individual in the hope that people think they are not a flashy new band but going back to the old days.

This is my School News Letter mock up. I have used Microsoft Publisher to create a rough idea of what the real design will look like. I used shape to create the basic outline then WordArt to label them.

Genre of my Magazine

My magazine shall be an Indie / Rock magazine as this is the music i am most interested in and listen to regularly. I think that this Genre is the easiest for me to portray and it is the best choice. Below are some bands that i listen to and represent either the Rock or Indie scene.
Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire, The Strokes and Led Zepplin.
